Seen & Heard: Free benefit concert at City Vineyard

TOYS FOR TOTS BENEFIT AT CITY VINEYARD
Gene Schafer first started holding a holiday benefit concert at his fitness studio years ago, when he was still uptown. When the event grew bigger, and opened ARC Athletics in Tribeca, he moved the show to Rockwood Music Hall over on Allen. Now he’s brought it back home, and locals David Steingard from Laughing Man and Michael Dorf from City Vineyard are helping put it together, with City Vineyard playing host. The 12th annual Toys for Tots NYC Holiday Benefit Concert will take place Sunday, Dec. 8, from 3 to 5p. Admission is free, just bring a new unwrapped toy — the marines will do the rest. Kids are welcome, free tickets are here.

BRAZILIAN MODERN DESIGN AT R&CO
R & Company is showing a retrospective of the pioneering Brazilian modern designer and architect Jose Zanine Caldas (1919 – 2001) through Jan. 4. The show (which is beautiful) is accompanied by the release of the first extensive bilingual Portuguese-English publication on the artist. While you are there you can also see an immersive exhibit by the French designer Pierre Yovanovitch, whose “Love” series has created a house inside the gallery. Both are at the 64 White St. location.

ANOTHER AMAZON GO COMES TO FIDI
J. reports that another Amazon Go store has opened in Fidi, this one at One Liberty on Broadway Church (corner of Cortlandt). The one in Brookfield (pic above) opened this past April. That makes six of the cashierless stores open in the city and two coming soon. Curious if anyone is devoted to these things…

RYAN REYNOLDS, BLAKE LIVELY AT CITY VINEYARD
The anti-hero and his heroine wife (I happen to love “Age of Adaline,” despite the odd plot) posted a photo on Instagram with one of the neighborhood’s best views as a backdrop after a concert of the Steven Page Trio at City Vineyard.

  1. The Amazon Go store at One Liberty is on Church (corner of Cortlandt) and not Broadway. :-)

  2. I go to the Amazon Go in Brookfield Place sometimes. There are usually 1-2 people at the front of the store just monitoring in case there are issues. The store is always empty and it’s so amazing to just walk in, grab what we need, and walk out!!! No lines, no crowds, etc. Probably bc it’s in a terrible location that no one can find HAHAHAHA
