Seen & Heard: Scenes of the season around the neighborhood

EATERIES COMING TO THE OCULUS
Westfield World Trade Center has a bunch of new chain restaurants coming to the Oculus in early 2020. Here’s the lineup:

  • Sushi by Pescatore: grab-and-go sushi
  • Godiva Café: savory treats and distinctive creations from coffee drinks to chocolate classics
  • Taco Dumbo: the taqueria and cold-pressed juice margarita bar
  • Special Bowl: newest food concept store created by Enoubowl, serving traditional Chinese cuisine
  • Sweetcatch Poke: authentic Hawaiian flavors
  • Devon & Blakely: its second location at Westfield WTC in the South Concourse, grab-and-go sandwiches, made-to-order salads and a gourmet soups

NEW SANDWICH SHOP ON PARK PLACE
Something called “HjO” offering toasted sandwiches has opened on the south side of Park Place. Can’t find anything by Googling. Will stop in eventually, or someone report back.

SCENES OF THE SEASON
You really can’t beat the yule log at Five & Dime — taking you right back to those PIX11, pre-cable days — but I can’t get enough of the Municipal Building these days, and a view of the Four Season’s idea of decor at the public plaza on Park Place / Murray, the indulgent wreath at Il Mulino, Citibank lights up its plaza.

  1. What is the latest with 415 Broadway?

  2. What is going on at the old City Hall on Duane Street? There has been massive demolition happening daily.

    • Just mentioned it last week. Adding a floor and renovating the entire building. Unclear what’s happening to the commercial space. No permits yet.
