Giorgione on Spring Street is closed

Giorgione, the Italian favorite on Spring at the top of Renwick, has closed after nearly two decades. The restaurant was opened in 2001 by Giorgio DeLuca (of Dean &), Jim Giddings and AJ Cataffo, and it was casual yet chic — and just the right amount of fancy to make it special. (They also had an offshoot, Giorgione 508, around the corner on Greenwich, that opened in 2005 and closed in 2008.)

Their last night was Friday, as announced in a poignant Instagram post set to the sounds of the Byrds’ “Turn Turn Turn”:

“As the expression goes, ‘everything has its season’ and Giorgione has certainly had hers. Thanks to everyone who loved joining us over nearly twenty years, across the seasons, rain or shine. We can say with a wistfulness, a lot of fun was had at our tables. For all your enthusiasm and support for what Giorgione was doing, we are very grateful and want you to know you will be missed. We shall always treasure the memories. Wishing you all, all good things in the new decade. Alas we bid a fond farewell.”

  1. I hope whoever comes next continues to preserve that 19th century “Seaman Lowerre” ghost sign.

  2. Nooo! So sad. A great neighborhood place that was so cozy in the winter with their fireplace. Will be missed.

  3. Good (not great) food, friendly staff, nice relaxing ambiance. Upscale but low key. Perfect for a party of 2. Will be missed.
