Yes, tariffs on European wine will impact us here more than them there. DM me if you want all the full details. FIGHTING THE GOOD FIGHT
Local wine merchants are gearing up to fight the proposed wine tariff on sparkling French wines, the latest boneheaded tariff move from the White House. Ben Aneff, the managing director of Tribeca Wine Merchants, is quoted in this Reuters story: “The existing and threatened tariffs pose the ‘the greatest threat to the wine industry since Prohibition. The domino effect of unintended consequences from the proposed tariffs would be catastrophic for tens of thousands of American businesses,’ Aneff told U.S. government officials at a hearing.” (Christy Frank’s Instagram post above.)

GIBNEY DANCE GETS $2 MILLION GRANT
Crain’s reports that Gina Gibney, whose dance company and studios are on Chambers Street (at 280 Broadway, but also in Chelsea at 890 Broadway) received a $2 million grant that will enable her company to double in size and begin performing new works by established and emerging choreographers. The grant is from Andrew Davis, a trustee of the Shelby Cullom Davis Charitable Fund

A VIOLATION OF NATURE?
The Philly-born cheesesteak outlet Wogies on Trinity Place gets a shoutout from an amNY reporter who somehow convinced the owner to make a hoagie with both steak and chicken: “White American cheese is melted onto the buffalo chicken half while a chipotle, cheddar cheese wiz is drizzled onto the steak side. Both sides are topped with plenty of onions.” I’m waiting on a certain Philly transplant to give us a ruling on this…

  1. I love and enjoy Wogies, but why attempt to innovate what is already a nearly perfect creation: the cheesesteak! (Let’s innovate the Eagles offense instead)
