WELCOME TO THE NEIGHBORHOOD, MISTER
Andrew Carmellini’s NoHo Hospitality is opening a Mister Dips in Spring 2020 at Pier 17 (as well as one in Detroit near — love –the Shinola Hotel). The original at the William Vale hotel in Williamsburg features griddle burgers, waffle fries and dairy dips, all out of an CHECK airstream trailer. That one is only open in the good weather; the one at the Seaport will be all year. Carmellini and his team also have the Dutch, Lafayette and Bar Primi.

BYO BAGS START MARCH 1
ICYMI: Starting March 1, New York State law will prohibit businesses from distributing plastic carryout bags to customers, with limited exceptions. In addition, businesses in New York City will be required to charge a five-cent fee for each paper carryout bag. This fee will not apply to any customers using SNAP or WIC. The Department of Sanitation is notifying New York City residents about the upcoming Plastic Bag Ban and Paper Bag Fee by handing out hundreds of thousands of free reusable bags and flyers across the city. Or get your own Tribeca Citizen tote bag! ;)

SHINOLA BUILDING FOR SALE

  1. Re plastic bag ban, we’ve been using the soon-to-be-banned plastic bags for our small under the sink trash bin for 35 yrs. Then we tie trash up before dropping it in our apt building trash chute. So, I’ll either have to shop more frequently at the businesses with exceptions (pharmacies and fruit/veg stands), or buy them in bulk online (there are biodegradable bags). Suggestions welcome. I’ve written State and City officials and no solutions.

  2. I heard that shinola building is under contract. Is this post updated info? The real estate website says under contract.

On the plastic bags. It would be nice if merchants were allowed to offer biodegradable bags as an option since they are convenient for many things and can be reused for other purposes
