In the News: 111 Varick nearly complete

111 VARICK JUST ABOUT WRAPPED UP
111 Varick – just north of the tunnel entrance at Broome – is just about finished and New York YIMBY has some good pics from an architectural photographer. (That’s my picture taken in May from 565 Broome.)  It’s an interesting looking building – though kind of sad how it now sandwiches the little classic four-story masonry building next door. The building will have 100 residential units, retail on the ground floor, and will be open in the fall.

ARLENE SHECHET AT PACE
Architectural Digest has a piece on artist Arlene Shechet, whose studio is here and who has a show up now at Pace called “Skirts.” “The essence of the sculptor’s three-decade-long career has been defined by her ability to challenge a material’s given possibilities.”

CELEBRATING THE MEATLESS BURGER
The local Fox affiliate gives a shout-out to Lekka Burger, the new vegan burger joint on Warren.

RAP GOSSIP OUT OF FLASHDANCERS
Ah, Page Six. Where else can you still read the words “jiggle joint”? This time it’s in reference to Flashdancers, fka New York Dolls, on Murray, where rapper Tyga dropped thousands, and reportedly doesn’t have it in the bank. “Rappers Swae Lee, Tyla Yaweh and Dominic Fike and Post Malone’s manager Dre London joined them, and we’re told they all got the ultimate VIP treatment. ‘They arranged for the cash before they arrived, and then the cash was presented to them on platters, like bottle service,’ said a source.”

  1. In 42 years of living in down here I’ve never set foot in New York Dolls (I’m married, female and work late hours) but it’s always fascinated me. Enlighten me, please, those who have.
