You can still shop local! Stores make adjustments and cross fingers

What little foot traffic there is in Tribeca has pretty much ceased. I would say the mood among local shopkeepers is resigned, bordering on devastated, with a sprinkling of optimism. Maybe that is standard operating procedure in retail these days, but this will be a huge blow to our micro economy here in the neighborhood. We are very lucky to have shops that have been here decades as well as newcomers who have flocked to what those stores in large part created. Let’s just hope this isn’t what ends it.

This is a piecemeal list compiled from notes I have received. Comment to add any other news, and I will make updates as we move through this. Also find the list of open retail in Hudson Square from the BID here.

Remember, even from afar you can place orders!

BOOMERANG TOYS
From Karen Barwick: “At the moment we are remaining open with abbreviated hours from 10am -6pm. We are also taking phone orders and will deliver to your apartment. If customers would like to place a phone order, our number is 212-226-7650. As you know the situation changes daily so as of right now that is our plan.”

180 THE STORE
180 the Store is offering its online service through 180thestore.com with free shipping and returns as well as a personal shopping service by email or phone: shop@180thestore.com, or by phone at (917) 379 0888.

BARNES & NOBLE
From Ray Pizzaro: “We are going to adjust our store hours to 10am to 7pm until further notice. All of our in store events have been postponed including story times. The community is free to come in. We did have to remove chairs to be safe. The cafe is open for take out. The community has been coming in for workbooks for the kids, activity kits and board games. We are reordering everyday to replenish stock.

Those who would like a quick transaction with limited contact can take advantage of our Buy Online Pick Up in store option. Once the order is submitted online and confirmed the customer can come in and head straight to the cashiers for pickup. All in all, it takes about 45 seconds. Thank you and be safe.”

FOURTEEN JAY
From Virginia Meyer: “We are fine – and we will be fine. We are assessing today and deciding our way forward for the week. We are prepared mentally (certainly not financially) to be closed for an extended period. On that front we are simply taking each day as it comes. Two to three months from now, we intended to be in business. We believe in the power of the human spirit and we believe in our team and guests. Salons have long been a social anchor and we intend to be that for the Tribeca community that we love so dearly.”

FLOWERS BY YASMINE
From Yasmine Karrenberg: “I am taking online and phone orders only (917-575-3116). As of now I make the arrangements and deliver by myself. Free delivery to all Tribeca, Wall Street and Battery Park phone orders. As a small business I can’t stop working and hope we can all surround ourselves with flowers as they have a strong positive effects on our emotional well being.”

GRANDAISY BAKERY
From Monica Von Thun Calderón: “For now, we are open limited hours (7am-3pm) with a limited product line. Here at Grandaisy Bakery, we just want to continue to bake bread and serve our community. We take our role as a local bakery and a member of the Tribeca Community seriously and are evaluating our situation daily in order to decide what to do next. Our primary concern is for the health and safety of our customers and our staff. With that in mind, we are taking the recommended measures for cleanliness and social distancing and have kept only essential staff on site.”

STELLA
Stella has a new and improved website, and will continue to fulfill online orders there at www.stellatribeca.com and will monitor and process orders via email to info@stellastore.com . They are also available for private appointments at the store. From Perri: “We look forward to continuing to bring comfort and beauty to your home during this difficult time.”

  1. Eataly Downtown remains open despite closure of the mall. They have closed all the restaurants and you cannot eat at the store. But the grocery store and some of the prepared food counters are open. Know they are trying to get the word out
