Taste of Tribeca will end its streak this year

It took a global pandemic to take down what has been the neighborhood’s funnest fundraiser and one of downtown’s most iconic events. Taste of Tribeca has decided to cancel this year’s event and will not reschedule. Instead, organizers have created a list of participating restaurants here, along with each restaurant’s latest efforts to continue operations and support its staff.

Obviously this is a blow to local schools, but it also is so disheartening as a community. There’s been no better way to catch up with each other, enjoy all that our local eateries have to offer and share the pride we have in Tribeca as a neighborhood. But most of all, now that every one of our restaurants is suffering, we can really see how they have over decades enlivened our streets, our lives, and brought us together.

This from PS 150 parent Emma Culbert, who is in her 7th year of co-chairing the event: “With a heavy heart, our current stance is that we have no plan to reschedule. Based on the timeline predictions for NYC by leading U.S. experts for Covid-19, the likely scenario by which NYC public schools will not commence until September and the hit the restaurants are taking financially, we would not be able to host Taste of Tribeca by the end of the current school year.

Taste of Tribeca hopes to come back strong in May 2021, but much of that relies on the financial health of the Tribeca area restaurants. We have put together a comprehensive list of ways to support our beloved Tribeca restaurants and are doing our best to keep it up to date as well as post to social media.”
