Taste of Tribeca Community Fund approaching $60k

Taste of Tribeca’s Community Fund — the GoFundMe page they started to buy meals from local restaurants and deliver them to city emergency rooms — is now at $57,000, well past its original goal of $15k. So far they have provided 1,824 meals to seven hospitals plus the local FDNY Ladder 8 on N. Moore and the 1st Precinct on Ericsson Place. From the Taste organizers: “Our restaurant partners have been terrific, enthusiastic and nimble, especially in an environment when hospitals are frequently refining their systems and changing quantity and date requests overnight.”

They have run through about 40 percent of the funds to date, so with they money they have at this point they can continue for another two weeks. If they raise more, they will keep going. The goal is now $75,000. (You can see the CBS News local segment below.)

Originally they hoped that $10 a meal would cover the restaurant’s costs, but that was not helping restaurants also pay staff, so they have raised the cost per meal to $12. The group started with Downtown Hospital (NewYork-Presbyterian Lower Manhattan Hospital) and have expanded to the Upper East Side. In the coming days they plan to add hospitals in the Bronx, Queens and Brooklyn, thanks to a new partnership with Uber Eats, which has agreed to sponsor delivery service to the other boroughs.

Taste also has a list of its participating restaurants and how you can support them these days. Some are delivering and others are encouraging fans to buy gift cards for future use.
