The latest openings around the neighborhood

WELCOME BACK TO THE SALONS!
Across the city, haircutters can now reopen. These are just the ones I heard from — I am sure there are more that are back in action. (Note the picture above of Ivy Lappin and some of the staff is pre-pandemic. Sigh.)

  • Mudhoney Salon and RE:ALABAYAN store — which share the storefront on the northside of Laight just off Hudson — are back open. Call or check their Instagram pages for hours, appointments and safety procedures. 212-533-1160
  • Lance Lappin was back open as of June 22. Call to book an appointment. 212-227-4150
  • Spiral (x,y.z) — the new salon for curly-haired types on West Broadway in the old Calypso space — has also reopened. More on them to come this week. 917-261-6794

CENTURY 21 IS BACK
… but not the tourists who come to shop. (I always say it’s 50-50 asking for directions for the World Trade Center and Century.) The temporary hours are Sunday to Friday, 11a to 5p; Saturday 10a to 6p. Thanks to J. for the heads up. They are also open July 4 if that’s how you celebrate the nation’s independence.

1803 TO OPEN ON JULY 7
1803, the NOLA-inspired restaurant on the corner of Reade and Church, will open on July 7 with “expansive” outdoor seating. Hours are Sunday through Wednesday, noon to 9p, and Thursday through Saturday, noon to 11p. NB: the owners recently just opened Miriam — an extension of their popular Park Slope spot — in the old Jamba Juice space on West Broadway and Chambers.

  1. Very happy to report that the stellar folks at Fourteen Jay are also back at work and they’ve carefully implemented several health and safety measures.

More info about new procedures here:

  2. Tortola Salon is back and, unlike the folks pictured above, are wearing masks and have retooled their space with maximum safety in mind.

Also, judging by the picture of 1803 posted here, there is not 6′ distance between those tables. It looks like about 2 feet. I am seeing this all over the place. When diners are seated they are practically touching. Well, I guess if we want the Pandemic to be over then, voilà, it is.

  3. Mud Honey is operating safely, hand sanitizer at entry and temp taken. Everyone required to wear masks. Stations are distanced and each one thoroughly sanitized after every client. I have been going to Michael, the owner, for 30+ years…he is an extremely talented haircutter and colorist and is extremely reasonable. Jenny and Hayden have also done my keratin for the past few years. They are the BEST!
