Community Board 1 agendas for July

The physical Manhattan Community Board 1 office is still closed, but the board now has a new email address: man01@cb.nyc.gov. The board’s meetings continue to be live at https://live.mcb1.nyc. I missed last month’s licensing meeting — it looks like this is the same agenda, so maybe they did not have a quorum? Check agendas before the meeting, just in case of changes. And as always, my comments in caps.

  1. With respect to the “Vespas”, are these the “Revel” branded motorbikes? What are the rules for them? I assume riders have to have a license (or do they?) and follow local traffic laws, but I have seen some pretty reckless behavior in BPC on several occasions in the past week alone. In one instance, a solitary rider was going the wrong way on North End (North in the Southbound lane) and in another, a group of young men was riding and racing each other up and down River Terrace at high rates of speed and not observing stop signs. Both were during early evening hours when there were a lot of people outside. Be careful everyone!

    • You need to be 21 and have a valid driver’s license, but because of their vehicle class, you don’t need an additional motorcycle endorsement to operate them.

People seem too operate them like they operate bicycles (e.g. I can go the wrong way up a street, ignore traffic lights, etc.). Seems like a recipe for disaster.

      • I wonder if they’ll start using them on the Hudson River bike paths, which already are seeing many electric bikes, some of which are going faster than normal bikes, which can’t end well.
Battery Park City just seems to be a focal point for all sorts of reckless behavior in its outdoor areas.

  2. 52 Walker – That’s the M1-5 bar.
    What does “corporate change” mean?
    Was anything decided?
