Seen & Heard: Mr. Chow is back

DINING ON THE LOADING DOCK
Mr. Chow, which has been boarded up since March, reopened last week for outdoor dining. (Thanks to F. for the photo.) Ours opened in 2006, but the chain first opened in London in 1968 and on 57th Street in 1979. Reserve here on OpenTable.

SUSHI OF GARI OFFERING DELIVERY
Quiet all these months, Sushi of Gari is back with pickup and delivery Monday through Friday, 3 to 8p. (Thanks to N. for note.) You can order online here or call 212-285-0130.

FREE CITI BIKE RIDES
Citi Bike is giving first-time users a free ride now through Sept. 12. The ride is 30 minutes and requires downloading the app, tapping the “First Ride Free” pass and then following instructions. See more info here.

THE OTHER SIDE OF WALL STREET
The Downtown Alliance and Black Gotham Experience are teaming up to offer a free virtual event on Sept. 9, at noon, and you can register here. “The Other Side of Wall Street” starts in 1643 with the beginning of a small town known as Land of the Blacks in the Dutch colony of New Netherland. By 1655, the Land of the Blacks was over twice the size of Soho today and it continued to exist after the English took the island from the Dutch, making it the first free Black community in New York. In this webinar, Black Gotham Experience artist/historian Kamau Ware will explain how this community started and how it continued to exist into the 18th century.

  1. Just so you all are aware, Sushi of Gari charges a $5.50 delivery fee, a $1 processing fee, and then a tip on top of that if you order from Seamless. I am curious how much of the “fees” go to the delivery people or if this will end up cutting into their income which doesn’t seem fair.
