Seen & Heard: Bull balancing act

This Seen & Heard is a Fidi Report, with news from south of Fulton…

JORDAN MATTER & CREW CHARGE THE BULL
N. caught this shot of the dance photographer Jordan Matter arranging a gaggle of dancers on Charging Bull down at Bowling Green. I can’t say I appreciate people hanging all over art — even if it is guerilla art built to last. But Matter’s work is always fun to watch.

FINE DINING ON THE SIDEWALK AT NOBU
Nobu has quite the setup on Broadway and Fulton, with dozens of chairs set up on both streets. Hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 5p to 9:30p.

…AND MORE AT EATALY
Eataly just opened its outdoor dining today, with a setup on Cortlandt Way, the pedestrian street between Three World Trade Center (the office building) and Four (H&M). The Flatiron curbside cafe — Il Patio di Eataly — has been operating for a while now.

HUH??
While this looks really cool, I can’t quite figure out the reasoning behind these cutouts in the construction fence around the site at Washington and Carlisle (thanks to N. for photo). Seeking an explanation..

  1. This is 111 Washington, a long vacant site where the family that owns it has been squabbling amongst themselves for years. One party has bought the other one out and the site is now up for sale again or looking for joint venture to build what is expected to be a 50 story blue residential tower at some point in the future. Not sure what the cutouts mean, but I think it is to give the site more visibility. Maybe the owner will put something artistic on the plot inside? Or not. :-)

  2. There were two ladies walking around the property inspecting the trees (there are some really big beautiful trees in there which you could see for the short time they had the cut out fence). I’m hoping whatever construction they do, they factor the trees in and maybe make it a nice green space around the building. That particular area could really use it.
