In the News: Mets honor downtown heroes

METS HONOR 9/11 HEROES
The Post reports how our own John Franco and other Mets players were able to reach out by Zoom to FDNY officers who were at the World Trade Center site on 9/11 as a way to keep the baseball club’s own tradition alive. “Each of the prior 18 Septembers, the Mets sent high-profile representatives to firehouses in downtown Manhattan, a tribute to those who gave their lives on September 11.” (Thanks to J. who caught this photo on Friday.)

W HOTEL CLOSES PERMANENTLY
The New York Business Journal reported that the Marriott W Hotel on Albany and Washington is closing permanently. “The hotel’s owner, Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide, filed notice with the New York State Department of Labor that the hotel, located at 8 Albany St., won’t reopen, and 134 employees will be permanently laid off on Oct. 13, due to ‘unforeseeable business circumstances prompted by Covid-19.'”

GAP BUILDING SUBJECT TO FORECLOSURE
The Real Deal reports that the Gap’s landlord in the Financial District claims it is in danger of losing its property because the retailer refuses to pay rent. “The Chera family’s Crown Acquisitions is in default on the $70 million mortgage covering the retail condo that houses Gap’s store on Broadway at the corner of Maiden Lane, the landlord revealed in court documents. Crown is now ‘subject to possible foreclosure — and the irreparable harm of losing’ the property, Brittany Bragg, the COO, wrote in a court filing.”

DINNER FOR $2K A HEAD
The Mark Hotel is organizing a dinner hosted by chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten aboard a 70-foot Herreshoff sailboat that leaves from the North Cove Marina. The price tag is $20,000 for 10 guests. Yup.
