Seen & Heard: Glass box for 13 Harrison roof

GLASS BOX IN HISTORIC DISTRICT
Tribecan Bill Bialosky designed a glass addition to the roof of 13 Harrison (south side) that was presented to the CB1 Landmarks Committee this week, and received some pushback from neighbors. The extension is 26 feet tall and will rise up the shared wall between that building and 11 Harrison. The neighbor who lives at 15 Harrison called it “grossly out of character with the neighborhood” and suggested it would block the backyards of neighboring buildings, where, he said there is “as active an environment there as on the front of the building.” The committee will make a final decision after it examines the sightlines from Greenwich.

SIDEWALK SALE SATURDAY AT LOLA TRIBECA
Lola Tribeca will hold a sidewalk sale today from noon to 5. 24 Harrison.

DON’T SEE THIS EVERY DAY…
A bus turning left off Warren onto West Broadway. The driver realized his/her error about halfway into the turn and backed that baby up.

A SOUVENIR FROM ANOTHER ERA
Lisa Stefanelli found this Bell Bates bag wrapped around a lighting fixture she had in storage — packed when she moved out of her Chambers Street apartment in 2001. The store closed in 2013.

  1. Oh boy, do I miss the old Bell Bates when it was on W Broadway where Serafina is now. The great smell, the sense of discovery in the crowded shelves and narrow aisles. Commodities too, but if I remember correctly, that’s even longer ago!
