2020 Shop-Local Gift Guide: Threads!

Ok, here goes. The 2020 Shop-Local Gift Guide. I went to every store in the neighborhood — and each time took a wingwoman, carefully chosen to lend her good taste and keen shopping instincts.

I divided the list into several categories: home, threads, kids, baubles, food, and in-a-category-of-their-own. And in each visit we tried to find a high and a low (though this is Tribeca, so sometimes it’s a high and higher) to diversify the price points. These are just a couple of the items that called to us. The guides will run over the next several days, so stay tuned.

180 THE STORE
180 Duane | Hudson & Greenwich
••• The fleece lined collar with snaps has to be the accessory of the season, especially for outdoor dining. $70.
••• Even Levi’s loyalists will love this Japanese denim coat, hand dipped-dyed and straight from Kojima. $1499.

A UNO TRIBECA
123 W. Broadway @ Duane
••• The Tribeca stalwart always has the best hats. These caps from Celine Robert. $165.
••• Another classic A Uno item: the merino poncho. $510.

……………………………

CHURCH STREET SURPLUS
327 Church | Canal & Lispenard
••• For your next Kamala Harris speech, antique hankies. $3.
••• And in case it’s still there, run: a vintage charcoal shearling full length Carolina Herrera coat. $675.

……………………………

CLIC
140 W. Broadway @ Thomas
••• Getting hygge with it. An alpaca hooded cardi that doubles as a coat, especially for outdoor dining. $695.

……………………………

HEMINGWAY AFRICAN GALLERY
88 Leonard | Broadway & Church
••• This is not the obvious go-to for fashion, but I have already snagged two of these Maasai beaded belts from Kenya. NB: they are one of a kind. $85.

……………………………

RED WING SHOES
116 Franklin | West Broadway & Sixth
••• For flag-wavers who shop US made and US sourced, this is your stop. Like buttah men’s driving gloves. $135.
••• Enter the updated classic, the Red Wing moc-toe: $280.

……………………………

TODD SNYDER AT THE LIQUOR STORE
2 White @ West Broadway
••• Yes, it’s got a bit of branding, but it still rocks the Tribeca landmark’s neon signage: Liquor Store flask. $120.
••• Snyder’s buffalo plaid top coat with a detachable shawl collar happens to look great on gals. $1250.

……………………………

JAMES PERSE
257 Church @ Franklin
••• The grey ribbed wifebeater is kind of perfect if you love high-end staples (I do) as gifts. $90.
••• The company always produces a jumpsuit, but this has to be one of their most snuggly, in fine wale corduroy. $325.

……………………………

JASON SCOTT
102 Franklin | Sixth & West Broadway
••• Back to the high-end staple idea, their shrunken tri-blend long sleeve tee is on my list. $90. Men should grab the Thomas crew for $65.
••• The Dunston pullover hoodie in midnight blue would do it. $198. Women should go for the drop shoulder crew in pink. $180.

……………………………

JENNI KAYNE
20 Harrison | Hudson & Greenwich
••• Nothing better than a cashmere beanie. Get both colors. $75.
••• Kayne is famous for it: the not-your-grandfather’s-but-kinda-close cashmere cardigan. $445.
