In the News: Tribeca’s Kitchen on Today

TRIBECA’S KITCHEN ON TODAY
The Today show featured Andy Koutsoudakis Jr. in an interview about his father, going back to his roots in Crete, the opening of Gee Whiz and then Tribeca’s Kitchen, his death from the coronavirus and now Andy Jr.’s efforts to reopen the restaurant. (Thanks to J. for spotting it.)

Carl Glassman of the Tribeca Trib got some cool pics of the clock being installed at Bogardus Plaza.

A NEW TARGET FOR SOHO
The Real Deal reports that Target has taken the lease for a new store (among many) at 600 Broadway (just south of Houston) in Soho, the former Hollister store. “Its new Soho home has had a curious history: Its tenants left years ago, but have agreed to pay millions of dollars in rent for the vacant space. Abercrombie & Fitch, the parent company of former tenant Hollister, is locked into a 20-year lease that expires in 2028.”

FLEA THEATER SHUTS DOWN PROGRAMS
The Times reports that it will close most of its programs for emerging actors, directors and writers — which does not seem like a surprise given the economic status of so many theaters, especially non-profit ones. “The theater said it is eliminating their roles, but is promising future residencies that pay. Months after promising radical changes in how it treats actors and other affiliated artists, the Flea Theater has announced that it would do just that, but not in the way those artists expected.”

  1. So nice to see Andy Jr carry on his dads legacy! What a great story! RIP dear friend. Can’t wait to come by next week and patronize. Support all local restaurants and bars! Our city is dying right now. We need all the support we can get. Good luck Andy! God bless you and the family.

  2. Good luck Andy Jr. I look so forward to seeing you greet us as your fabulous dad did for so many years. He is greatly missed and you are greatly welcomed. Among all his other attributes he had to be a great dad.
