Roxy + Soho Grand owners say they remain committed to running the hotels

After The Real Deal published a story (that I excerpted) saying that the owner of the Soho Grand and The Roxy hotels was handing over the keys to the lender (according to notes on the hotels’ securitized loan), the Roxy’s PR team got in touch directly to say that the company — Grandlife Hotels — remains committed to operating both properties, and that it had remained current on its financial obligations throughout the pandemic (though that last part was never in question).

The hotels’ bars and restaurants are also slowly coming back online. The Roxy Bar opened last week; Django will open in April and The Roxy Cinema in May. This, of course, is great news for the neighborhood.

Here’s the statement verbatim:

“The Soho Grand, which was the first independent boutique hotel in Soho, has completely renovated its 347 guestrooms, including the addition of six terrace suites. The hotel introduced the Soho Diner to the neighborhood in December, 2019. The Soho Diner and Gilligan’s have continued to successfully operate indoors and outdoors, as permitted, throughout the pandemic. The hotel’s classic Grand Bar, located on the salon level, reopened on February 12th. The hotel’s live music and nightlife venue, Club Room, is slated to reopen in September.

The Roxy Hotel, originally the Tribeca Grand Hotel, was the first independent boutique hotel to open in TriBeCa. In 2015, the hotel’s public spaces and guestrooms were completely redesigned and renovated, and the hotel was rebranded as the Roxy Hotel Tribeca. The Roxy introduced live entertainment in the Roxy Bar and opened Paul’s Cocktail Lounge, the Django, The Roxy Cinema, Blackstone’s and Jack’s Coffee. The Roxy Bar reopened February 12th with Live Entertainment and will be serving outdoors on the Plaza this Spring. The Django is expected to reopen in April and The Roxy Cinema is expected to open in May.

The Soho Grand and the Roxy Hotel, pioneers in the downtown hotel landscape, are iconic New York hotels that are imbued with a sense of place within their neighborhoods and are part of the fabric of their communities. The Hotels are well positioned for the future, and we look forward to continuing to offer unique hospitality experiences to our guests and locals.”
