New Amsterdam Library opens tomorrow

The New Amsterdam branch of the New York Public Library on Murray opens to the public on Tuesday, July 6, after three years of renovations (including a covid delay). It closed in May 2018.

The renovation cost $4.2 million and included:

  • new ADA bathrooms
  • new ADA doors
  • new cooling systems
  • upgrades to the fire and sprinkler systems
  • new floors
  • and overall design upgrades, including an exposed brick vaulted ceiling.

The branch was originally opened in 1989, and Sue Ellen Epstein unearthed some fun shots of the opening ceremonies.
