In the News: Break-in at Greenwich Street Tavern

ROBBERS CAUGHT AT GREENWICH ST. TAVERN
The Trib got pics and the report of a break-in at Greenwich Street Tavern, which is still closed (though it did open briefly) on Monday night. The owner watched the break-in on camera from home and called the police, who found the suspects hiding in the basement.

EQUINOX SUED FOR BACK RENTS
Crain’s reports that Equinox owes millions in back rent for its locations in Soho, the West Village and Wall Street. “Related Cos. Chairman Stephen Ross is a major investor in Equinox, and other Related principals are invested in the company as well. Its subsidiaries include SoulCycle, Pure Yoga, Blink Fitness and Precision Run.”

LEASING THE GALLERY DISTRICT
Artsy has a story on the broker who has placed 18 of the last 20 galleries in the district around Walker/White/Franklin and Broadway/Church — Jonathan Travis. His clients include Bortolami, Alexander and Bonin, P.P.O.W, Bortolami, GRIMM, Luhring Augustine, Jane Lombard Gallery, Denny Dimin, 1969 Gallery, Patrick Parrish, James Cohan and Andrew Kreps. Of course I take issue with the comment in the story that other than Postmasters, there were no galleries in that area before 2016, since we know there was R & Company, Cheryl Hazan, Hal Bromm, Soho Photo Gallery and Rob Mango’s Neo Persona — and likely others I am not thinking of…

CATCHING UP ON THE MONUMENT
The Times just covered the monument debate this week, as did amNY.

HUNTER BIDEN INTERRUPTER
I didn’t realize this was an actual title, but according to The Post, “art interrupter” Rod Webber was arrested for vandalizing the Soho gallery Georges Berges Gallery, which will show Hunter Biden’s paintings later this fall. Webber said he wanted to protest President Biden’s “war crimes” and was planning to spray paint “Daddy’s a war criminal” in mirror image on the gallery’s walls. He only got to “Daddy” before he was caught.
