GETTING READY FOR THE FLOOD
N. caught sight of the flood wall at the fields, which is under construction and to be finished by fall. This is their temporary solution; when the Battery Park City Authority finishes its longer-term resiliency work around the north and west parts of their property, they predict they will not need this protection here.
ONE WHITE OPENS NEXT THURSDAY
After a couple years of anticipation, One White Street, the vertical restaurant helmed by chef Austin Johnson and master sommelier Dustin Wilson, opens Thursday, August 5, with dinner. The ground floor and outdoor space are FCFS; the upstairs two floors are a six-course tasting meal. Reservations are here. I just barely snagged one in time for the 5th; I hope I get to sit under that Gordon Matta-Clark photo of Day’s End…
CB2 REJECTS SOHO/NOHO REZONING
Community board 2 rejected the mayor’s Soho/Noho rezoning plan, aligning itself with neighborhood preservationists. From Village Preservation: “Research conducted by the group found that the proposed rezoning would exacerbate problems of affordability and inequality in SoHo, NoHo and Chinatown and also lead to ‘involuntary replacement’ of residents who could lose their homes.”
BLUES AT WAGNER ON THURSDAY
BPCA will host the Delta blues band Rev. Sekou & the Freedom Fighters on Thursday, July 29, at 7p at Wagner Park; there’s a DJ set starting at 6. The band is dedicated to raising consciousness for social justice through activism and music. Register here.
There is also Rigor Hill Farmer’s Market at One White Street. Walked by this morning and the produce look great! Can’t wait to try it out. :)
I love hove CB2 is a a CB of action. CB1 sucks as I feel that what ever we fight we always lose.
PSA for anyone walking/running on West between Warren and Murray where this construction is. Many cyclists are completely ignoring the signage and markings noting the construction and the fact that that section of the path is to be shared by cyclists and walkers/runners. I have been personally cursed at by cyclists, despite being on the pedestrian side, and have seen some close calls in the past few weeks. Please be careful.
