Seen & Heard: Black Wall Street on Hudson

BLACK WALL STREET ON HUDSON
Ricco Wright has installed his Black Wall Street Gallery in the old Shoefly space on Hudson and Duane Park for a summer residency. Pop in and say hi. The gallery’s mission is to build better relationships between black and white citizens of Tulsa. More TK if he decides to stay past August 15 for his “Summer in Tribeca” show.

NEW RAMEN FOR HUDSON EATS
I couldn’t quite catch the name while watching the video of the CB1 Licensing Committee, but a new ramen spot is coming to Hudson Eats in the Brookfield mall.

LATE HOURS FOR OLD ECCO!
The owners of the seafood restaurant coming to the Ecco! space at 124 Chambers in October came back to the CB1 Licensing Committee to request later hours — they had asked for Thursday, Friday and Saturday till 2a, but the CB1 full board rejected it, since an upstairs tenant made a case to limit hours. According to committee members, the tenant believes the landlord is teaming up with the restauranteur to push her out — using the later hours as a way to make it harder for her to live there. The committee said to give it six months and see how it goes. For his part, the owner said they wanted the later hours to capture some of those diners who have fewer places to eat at that time due to covid.

BUT WHAT HAPPENS WHEN IT RAINS?
Professional sand sculptor Matt Long has created a castle on the plaza at Brookfield Place at the North Cove Marina. This is the tallest one ever in New York City and it’s on view till August 14. Long has competed and placed in many Master Sand Sculpting contests, including four appearances in the World Championships of Sand Sculpting and medals on Team USA in both singles and doubles divisions. I feel like it must have rained in the two weeks the castle has been up, but it’s still standing…
