New ferry route will get to Midtown in 17 minutes
The city has expanded its NYC Ferry service to include Battery Park City in a new route that goes from Staten Island to Midtown. The service will start August 23, and the trip from Vesey Street to Pier 79 at 39th Street will take 17 minutes. Of course you can also ride to Staten Island — that will take 18 minutes.
The ferries will leave every half hour on the weekdays starting at 7a till about 10p, and every 45 minutes on weekends. The schedule is here. The cost is $2.75, same as the subway.
Neighbors and Community Board 1 were not psyched about the added ferry traffic at the BPC ferry dock when this first came up in 2019.

Its really sad to hear neighbors complain about added ferry service. Ill say it again, go move to the suburbs if you dont want people getting on and off transit near where you live, or sit in traffic. CB1 should be thrilled that residents can now get uptown by one more means besides a car.

Ava, Iris, convenience. One is from Battery, and one is closer to Brookfield. It’s about ease and convenience. More is more, and more is better. More public transpo options is GOOD.
There are lots of govt giveaways. This is a good one.

This is an undercover NYC government giveaway to Hudson Yards. The Staten Island stop is part of the subterfuge, making it seem like it’s principally for the benefit of an outer borough. But given that : 1) there’s already a fairly proximate Staten Island Ferry, 2) the terminal name “Midtown West” handily obscures that it’s really Hudson Yards, 3) it’s largely a ferry between two financial headquarters- Brookfield and Hudson Yards and 4) the NYC government subsidy has been calculated at $9.34 per trip, it’s truly shocking that there hasn’t been meaningful scrutiny of this giveaway.
There is already a free ferry from Staten Island.
While there is a ferry from Staten Island, there is a real lack of options for Staten Islanders who work in midtown west. This will help them on what was often a 3 legged trip (bus or SIR to ferry, ferry to Manhattan, subway to Midtown west).
