Seen & Heard: More action on White Street lot

A GHOST KITCHEN AT WHITE STREET LOT
J. sent the video above — it seems Fresh Direct has leased the White Street lot as a ghost kitchen for DoorDash, which is running its operation out of a truck. Will see if I can get any info out of FD…

PAINTINGS OF THE NEIGHBORHOOD AT THE OCULUS
NYC Culture Club at the Oculus will host a solo exhibition by Tribecan Todd Stone starting today through Sept. 30. The exhibit features over 30 works in oil, watercolor and digital media that document the 20-year story of the rebuilding of downtown, and the 12 years of Stone’s tenure as an artist in residence at the World Trade Center. The opening is aligned with the 20th anniversary of September 11. Stone’s work reflects the transformation of the Ground Zero site, produced from 2001 to 2021. Stone worked for 12 years from various studio spaces throughout the new World Trade Center, and the paintings include sweeping cityscapes and portraits of streetscape construction and renewal-in-action. More from Todd next week, and more on the show here.

ART IN THE STREETS
The Downtown Alliance, in collaboration with Art on the Ave, will install work by 27 New York artists at the Fulton Center and seven other locations starting Sept. 7 through Nov. 28. Each piece of art in the collection is guided by the notion of “resiliency,” the ability to demonstrate adaptability and the capacity to thrive in changing or challenging environments. The work spans across mediums using collage, paint, charcoal and textiles. The Alliance will also launch a second project on Sept. 8 that will wrap 65 lamp posts along Broadway in collaboration with ArtBridge and the NYC DOT. Frances Smith and Michelle Weinberg were selected as the two artists chosen to display their works, from 150 applications.
