Seen & Heard: Fundraiser for The Battery gardens

SUPPORT THE BATTERY GARDENS
This year’s Battery Gardeners Luncheon will feature a talk by Tribecan Laura Starr, whose firm Starr Whitehouse designed the playground currently under construction there. The event is on Oct. 14 with a tour of the playscape at 11a and an outdoor lunch at noon. Tickets are here. (I want a poster of the Starr Whitehouse garden plan…)

NEW GALLERIES FOR THE NEIGHBORHOOD
A press agent sent me a handy list of three new galleries in the district:

  • David Lewis moved from the LES to 57 Walker and has a Todd Gray exhibition on view. Hours are 11a to 6p, Tuesday to Saturday.
  • JDJ opened its 373 Broadway (B11) location in June and has a solo show by the artist duo Barrow Parke up now. They also have a space in Garrison, NY.
  • Mother Gallery opened last week on 368 Broadway (4th floor) with a Caitlin MacQueen show titled Ciao! Manhattan. They also have a space in Beacon, NY.

TOP FIVE FIDI PLACES TO EAT OUTSIDE
The Downtown Alliance made a list of the top five spots in Fidi to eat outside, and there was one that I had never considered: the “bleachers” on the East River just north of Wall. (Also great and also a sleeper: Tribecan Ken Smith’s Elevated Acre at 55 Water.)
