In the News: Riding the Empire State Trail

EMPIRE STATE TRAIL MILE BY MILE
New York Times reporters rode the length of the Empire State Trail, which starts here in Battery Park City (well, maybe it ends here if you are from Rouses Point) and goes for 750 miles north to the Canadian border and west to Buffalo. The north-south route starts with the 13-mile Hudson River Greenway: “The north/south part of the trail, on the eastern side of the state, is not one bike route but many, each differing in length, type, surface material and scenery, all stitched together. If diversity is what you’re after, this trail’s for you.”

MAN SHOVED ONTO TRACKS AT CHAMBERS
WPIX reported that a man was shoved off the platform of the 1 train at Chambers on Monday, but he was able to climb back onto the platform and refused medical attention at the scene. “Authorities said it happened around 5:20 a.m. at the Chambers Street station, along the Nos. 1, 2 and 3 lines, in the Tribeca neighborhood. The 45-year-old man was standing on the platform when he was suddenly shoved in an unprovoked attack, police said.”

CAST IRON HOUSE PENTHOUSE FOR SALE
The WSJ has some good shots (that’s mine from the roof of 51 White) of one of the penthouses designed by Shigeru Ban on top of the Cast Iron House at 67 Franklin — making me want to try to get in there (I’ve asked and no luck). It’s now for sale for $13 million, so it should be a bit easier.

TOP SALE DOWNTOWN IN 2021?
The penthouse at 56 Leonard sold for $45 million, $5 million below the original asking price listed this summer, according to The Real Deal. “I do believe this is the most expensive transaction to close downtown in 2021,” listing agent Clayton Orrigo told The Real Deal on Tuesday. The buyer was Misfit Owlet LLC.

  1. More nuggets:

    – There’s a new art gallery on the NW corner of Vestry/Greenwich in that beautiful brick storefront that’s been vacant for a long time. Looks stunning with all the windows, but I forgot the name of it.
    – Windows were papered over and there’s been construction activity on the SW corner of Greenwich/N. Moore (across from Locanda) in what was rumored to be a new fine dining Mexican restaurant. Hopefully that’s moving forward now.

  2. What’s going on at the old City Hall Restaurant space in Duane street. There a lot of gutting and Reno but what’s was determine that space will be.
