VIEWING IS BACK AT THE BALLFIELDS
J. sent these shots of the Battery Park City ballfields mezzanine — it’s finally open after two years of repairs to the Asphalt Green roof. The project went over in every sense, but here we are at last, just in time for winter.

CHINATOWN WILL GET $20 MILL FOR REVAMP
Just catching up on the news that Chinatown will receive $20 million in state funding as the New York City Region winner of the fifth round of the Downtown Revitalization Initiative. Each of the state’s 10 regional economic development regions got $20 million — and Chinatown was the winner for ours. The funds are meant to help boost post COVID-19 economies by transforming downtowns into vibrant neighborhoods. The main sites are the East Broadway Mall, a city-owned commercial space under the Manhattan Bridge; the East Broadway Triangle; and Forsyth Plaza and Kimlau Square.

15 BROAD WILL FULFILL WISHLISTS AGAIN
Residents at 15 Broad will once again join in a Salvation Army program that fulfills specific wish lists for New Yorkers in need. They answered 362 requests last year — well past their goal of 200. The families must apply and live at or below the poverty line; all of them live south of 14th Street. The effort, organized by Lissa Hussian, Jessica Grunfeld and Sallyjo Levine, has been fulfilling requests for everything from toys to bedding to tablets for school. Email 15broadangeltree@gmail.com if you would like to participate by becoming an angel or contributing gifts.

  1. I walked on Greenwich yesterday and saw that Patisserie Chanson was open!

  2. They were pouring the cement to restore the sidewalk on the south side of Warren between West and North End this morning (alongside the new water barrier for the field).

    • Yup. They’re working the sidewalk and have to do the part on bike walking path. There is also a light that is kept on all night in the lower deck of the bleachers or something. It seems complete waste of city energy and adds more glaring intrusive light for residents.
