2021 Shop-Local Gift Guide: Threads! (for gals)

Here goes: the 2021 Shop-Local Gift Guide. I went to every store in the neighborhood — and each time took a wingwoman, carefully chosen to lend her good taste and keen shopping instincts. These are just a couple of the items that called to us. The guides will run over the next several days, so stay tuned.

Denise Williamson’s boutique showcases unique brands, designers and objects on a rotating basis similar to an art gallery.
••• An ex-buyer for Barney’s morphs Mexican sarapes with Harris Tweeds and denim jackets. $620.
••• The rabbit fur Mature Ha hat is crushable. $475.
••• I have to plug the Taion (means temperature in Japanese) heated vest now that it’s winter curbside dining season again. Comes with short and long sleeves. $360.

Ann Benedetto has animated this prominent corner for 20 years. Sadly the store is moving to the Village soon into the new year so get your last licks while you can walk around the corner.
••• The chartreuse fingerless are gone because I bought them for myself. Shearling gloves in all colors. $185.
••• We loved these repurposed saris handmade in India from Meiko Mintz. $1200~

The former men’s suit shop is now a straight-up J. Crew boutique.
••• We went for the wool blend coat for the color. $348.
••• Avoid the ugly holiday sweater and just wear these. Booty socks in a three-pack of plaids for $34.50.

The LA native launched a T-shirt line in 1994 and ran with it from there.
••• The land of the high-end staple had this fab recycled cashmere beanie. $160.
••• I am not sure how JP gets this Yosemite jacket to be so squishy but I loved it. $595.

The California lifestyle brand does wardrobe essentials and luxe home goods.
••• My favorite contradiction: the shearling sandal. $375.
••• The perfect sweater/coat in Yak and merino that one of us wore home: $395.

The land of the $100 T-shirt and $1000 T-shirt has something for everyone. But truly — the shop has up-and-coming designers that only the well-informed have heard of.
••• The British painter Peter Doig did an artist collab with Dior. The fleece is $3700. The sweater is $2700.
••• Our salesman Jackson Ray worked at Celine and now has his own line of hoodies, which POTN carries. $325.

Tribecan Al Abayan’s jewel box of a store carries The Soloist along with his other curated fashion finds.
••• The ultimate in upcycling: Tyvek jacket from The Soloist: Takahiro Miyashita.
••• So original the designer has patented the hardware. Daana Saakena brief, $3125.

It’s worth visiting just to see the art installations in the dressing rooms. There’s a 3D octopus!

••• My photo didn’t do this deconstructed Margot cord blazer justice so trust me this is an instant dress-up for a T-shirt and jeans. $595.

The husband and wife team behind Intermix, Haro and Sari Sloane Keledjian, launched the California inspired boutique in 2017.
••• The best pandemic puppy ever. $475.
