Seen & Heard: A local baker gets the Disney treatment

CRAFTING DISNEY SCENES OUT OF CAKE
Fidi resident Jennifer Wood, who runs Itty Bitty Bakery (her cakes are nuts!) will compete on Disney’s show Foodtastic, where contestants create extravagant sculptures made entirely out of food. I’ll catch up with Jennifer soon, but in the meantime, you can catch the show on Disney+ on Dec. 15 in an episode called “Toy Story: Toy Doctor to the Rescue.”

STICKING UP FOR CAB DRIVERS
Manhattan Youth’s Bob Townley has been supporting yellow cab drivers in their desperate attempts to get some debt relief from the city after their industry was destroyed first by Uber and then by covid. He’s quote in this Vogue story: “I was born and raised in New York; my grandfather, who came over here from Hungary, was a cab driver, and I put myself through school at Columbia University working as a cab driver. I think it’s really unfortunate how cab drivers have been misled and mistreated in New York City, and I don’t know how De Blasio let it get to this point. He’s got to step in, and he’s got to step in big. As a person who knows the industry, the solutions are not very complicated; we need debt relief for the people who have been taken advantage of.”
