Designer furnishings showroom coming to Jay Street

The word on the street is that an exciting young design team — TRNK — is opening its first showroom at 18 Jay, the former bridal store between Staple and Greenwich. This would have fit really well into my notion of a Tribeca Design District, though the ranks are thinning now that Orior and Maker&Son have left the neighborhood.

The company was founded in 2013 by Tariq Dixon, whose own home has been featured in Architectural Digest, and Nick Nemechek as a purveyor of curated furnishings with a strong design pedigree; they launched their own line in 2017. AD calls their company “an interiors destination for men” but I don’t quite get the sex distinction — it just looks very cool, geometric and sensual. There’s even a Tribeca series, “inspired by the glamour of lower west Manhattan in the late 1930’s.”

From an AD story in 2017, when they launched their own line: “We personally like design objects that are refined, with a strong profile. Our site is about searching for standout conversation pieces, and we think these pieces are just that. We spent a lot of time with the foam, the upholstery, the frame, to find a way to maintain the profiles we wanted while still being super comfortable.”

More TK, of course.
