Seen & Heard: Tin Building on track for this spring

TIN BUILDING UPDATE
Folks have been asking so I checked: The Howard Hughes Corp. isn’t getting specific, but the latest word is that the Tin Building is still on track to open “this spring.” (It is always a bluebird day when I happen to be at the Seaport.) The plan from last May is here.

THE DISCOVERY OF THE AFRICAN BURIAL GROUND
The Downtown Alliance blog has a “looking back” post on the discovery of the African Burial Ground — more than 30 years ago, when Dinkins was mayor and they were excavating for the federal building now on the site. I’ve been trying for a year to get the National Park Service to fill me in on the updates they made at the site. Plus there’s been talk about expanding the museum… More TK and in the meantime, this is worth a read.

A BIT OF GENIUS
My clever friend made this clever bday present for me and I had to share. If I play my cards right, I may get The Odeon next. Stay tuned.

ACTION AT 18 MURRAY
Nice to see something going on along the bar strip that is Murray between Church and Broadway. (Here’s a more thorough look at that block.) This is the former Lily O’Brien’s — a bar owned by the folks at Monk McGinn’s. They never reopened it once it was damaged by the collapse at 21 Park Place. I haven’t seen anything on the agenda for a liquor license — might have to wait and see…
