Seen & Heard: Sneak peek of North Bar

NORTH BAR OPENS TUESDAY
Stacey Sosa and her partners Katie Leonard and Paul Cleary will open their new bar next to Estancia 460 (458 Greenwich) on Tuesday night. It was designed by Al Abayan of RE:AL, whose taste and design instincts are among the best in the neighborhood, so it’s bound to be fab. I’ll get in there next week.

I don’t know (yet) what their intention was with the name, but I will note that the Dutch name for our section of the Hudson River is the North River, and some historically-inclined nautical types still default to that.

WYATT KAHN COMING TO CITY HALL PARK
The Public Art Fund will install the large-scale sculptures of Wyatt Kahn in City Hall Park starting in early June. The six-month show will include seven vibrant rust red Cor-Ten steel artworks for Khan’s first exhibition in public space. I love those shows — we are so lucky that the Public Art Fund likes that park.

UMAMI IS BACK AT HUDSON EATS
J. reports that Umami Burger has re-opened in Brookfield Place, but is now sharing its space with an affiliated chain restaurant: Sam’s Crispy Chicken.

IN CASE YOU WERE WONDERING…
The police presence on Broadway near the Brooklyn Bridge Thursday morning was for a climber: he headed up the cables, but EMS workers were able to coax him off. He got pretty far up there — you can see them as little specs in this screenshot from the Citizen app.

  1. Very excited for North Bar (your assumption is correct the name is a nod to North River). Wishing them the best of luck. Fabulous group of people and it’s gorgeous inside!

    • How great that they listed everyone involved in the project on their website – from the design to the construction and cleaning!! Love the appreciation they have for their team, and looking forward to trying them soon!
