Seen & Heard: It’s not easy being green

THE GREENING OF WASHINGTON MARKET PARK
Couldn’t resist a shoutout to Kermit. The lawn at Washington Market Park is being rolled out now. More on this soon, but the sod should take about eight weeks to knit and then we will be back in business. It’s been three years since the lawn was green: March 2020 of course was a no-go, and in the spring of 2021, the Parks Department didn’t want to close the lawn since so many schools were getting their kids outdoors as much as possible.

+ POOL FUNDRAISER
If you are into the + Pool concept coming to the East River, they are hosting a fundraiser on July 27 in Brooklyn. More info here.

FARMERS MARKET AT ONE WHITE
The folks at One White Street are working on a retail concept for the former CafĂ© Clementine space next door. Also no date yet, but their Rigor Hill farmers market — from the farm they created to grow much of their produce — will be returning.

PARTYING IN THE STUDIOS ON FRANKLIN
The New York Academy of Art on Franklin was nice enough to invite me to their annual Studio Party — their fundraiser that allows guests to wander four floors of their graduate students’ studios while drinking. It’s a very fun event — great vibe, live music on every floor and the lovely students dressed up and waiting to explain their work. Of course I left with a painting — a sweet trompe l’oeil by first-year Jane Philips. I could have easily left with a dozen. If you are shopping for real paintings ever, this is the spot.

  1. Matto Espresso opened a new location at 299 Broadway today. I walked by this morning.

  2. I love the Pool + project idea. I’ve often thought that the city should have a string of shore-line pools up the Hudson and East Rivers. Floating pool(s)! Fantastic. I hope it happens. I love the tone of the written description. Something to hope for, look forward to, swim in, applaud.
