Seen & Heard: Smyth Tavern getting closer?

SMYTH TAVERN COMING SOON?
Last I checked in John McDonald, the entrepreneur behind Mercer Street Hospitality and Lure Fishbar, he was hoping to open this summer with the restaurant in the Smyth Tribeca (at Chambers and West Broadway). Maybe he’s getting closer? Workers were painting the outside window frames (I did not remember those floor to ceiling windows from Little Park) and replacing the glass on the doors.

CLIPPER RACE FLEET IN THE RIVER
J. grabbed this shot of the fleet of Clipper Race boats, which do a round-the-world race in 11 legs, using paid, amateur sailors with professional skippers and other crew members. The journey takes 10 months.

THE PATRIOT IS CLOSED FOR SURE
The first note on the door of the Patriot left room for a return, but this latest one leaves no doubt. Thanks to S. for the pic. The note is a treatise on the bar, a thank you to the customers and staff and the failure of elected officials to watch out for small business. “Just know that whatever replaces us here will be incredibly overpriced and uninteresting.”
