In the News: Making this month’s heatmap

L’ABEILLE MAKES THE HEATMAP
L’Abeille (more soon) makes Eater’s monthly list of the hottest spots in the city, along with Mott Street Eatery — “a bustling 10-stall food court similar to those found in Flushing, Sunset Park, and Elmhurst…with an impressive array of roasted meats, well-executed hand rolls from a sushi chef known as Jiro, and duck and lobster pizza, among other offerings.” NB: Jiro is our own Billy Liu from Tokyo Bay.

MORE ON THE POSTMASTERS MOVE
Artnet has more on Postmasters Gallery’s decision to leave its Tribeca space and go nomadic after failing to resolve a dispute with their landlord. “I don’t understand the meaning of the word quit,” said gallery co-founder Magda Sawon.

DONNA FERRATO AT DANIEL COONEY
Artdaily reviews Tribecan Donna Ferrato’s show at Daniel Cooney Fine Art on West 26th Street, up till July 29. “A photojournalist and feminist activist who is best known for her documentation of domestic violence, Ferrato, 73, has also depicted women pursuing sexual pleasure, giving birth, raising children, enticing men and demonstrating in the streets. Her subject is women taking control of their bodies, and in her fiercely empathetic mission, sometimes she turns the camera on herself.”

THE SECRET SAUCE AT BUBBY’S
Gotham magazine does a deep dive on the pancakes at Bubby’s in an interview with Ron Silver. “As for the success of our pancakes themselves, we have a tweaked James Beard recipe that’s one of the best-selling items–swapping some of the milk for sour cream is our secret ingredient. This gives the pancakes a mild tangy flavor that partners well with the maple syrup. We also have our signature sourdough pancakes, and the secret weapon here is our very nurtured sourdough starter from the 19th century.”

  1. Glad to see L’Abeille doing well! I walked past last week and noticed they added some elegant looking outdoor seating as well. Best of luck.
