In the News: Best rooftop bars in the city

BEST ROOFTOP BARS IN THE CITY
I love a good roundup when someone else does it. TimeOut has a list of the best rooftop bars in the city and we have quite a few within waling distance: Overstory at the top of 70 Pine from the folks at Crown Shy; The Greens at the roof of Pier 17; Jimmy at the top of ModernHaus Soho; The Crown at Hotel 50 Bowery; ART Soho at the Arlo Hotel. They missed (or maybe they think they are not the best) the new bar on the top of the Walker Hotel and the Loopy Doopy rooftop bar at the Conrad in BPC. Anything else?

PRESERVING THE LOBBY OF 60 WALL
The Times has a feature on the effort to preserve the elaborate ’80s marble atrium lobby of the largely empty 60 Wall — it used to be Deutsche Bank — now that the owners are seeking a new tenant and looking to give it an update. The public lobby is also the entrance to subway. “In a city where the typical subway exit unceremoniously deposits passengers on a grimy sidewalk, to ride the escalator up from the dingy train station and ascend into the luminous white hall is to be truly transported. But now there is a plan to demolish this eye-popping extravaganza, designed in the 1980s, and create a sleeker, more contemporary design.”

ONE WALL & ITS RETAIL TENANTS
YIMBY has some glamour shots of One Wall, along with shots of the retail frontage for Life Time gym, one of the retail tenants. The real question is: when will Whole Foods arrive? I’m awaiting word from the mothership…

BEST NEW RESTAURANTS IN THE CITY
Thrillist includes Casa Carmen on Franklin (as well as Carne Mare at the Seaport and Marc Forgione’s Peasant) among the best new restaurants in the city.

  1. Enjoyed my dinner at Casa Carmen when they first opened (especially their handcrafted cocktails and the vessels they serve them in!) and loved visiting Marc Forgione’s Peasant to celebrate a friend’s bday (the food and service were great!). I’ve walked-by Carne Mare in the Seaport, but perhaps it’s time for a surf and turf taste-test. If it’s anything like Andrew Carmellini’s other restaurants, I have no doubt it will be impressive. Please consider supporting our downtown restaurants whenever you can.
