Rally to thwart plans for Wagner Park today

The Battery Park City Neighbors Association is holding a rally today to protest the reconstruction of Wagner Park, a of the Battery Park City Authority’s resiliency plans. The rally is at 6p in the park.

I am leaving this discussion to the folks further downtown, but if you want to read about the reasoning behind the protest, see their new website, savewagner.com, here. They are concerned about the destruction of 112 mature trees, the increased size of the building, and the loss of lawns to increased paved areas.

The next part of the project is the North/West Battery Park City, where the authority has plans to elevate and redesign Rockefeller Park as well. There is an opportunity to comment now on the scope of that project, which will include the esplanade behind Stuy, Belvedere Plaza, the North Cove and parts of Tribeca as well. See those plans here.

The BPCA’s plans for South Battery Park City are here on their website. Or you can read my overview from the spring here.
