Seen & Heard: Schoeller show at Museum of Jewish Heritage

SCHOELLER PORTRAITS AT JEWISH HERITAGE MUSEUM
Tribecan and contemporary portrait photographer Martin Schoeller will show 75 portraits of Holocaust survivors at the Museum of Jewish Heritage starting Sept. 18. More on the show soon. “Survivors: Faces of Life After the Holocaust,” was created by Martin Schoeller and Yad Vashem to mark the 75th anniversary of the Liberation of Auschwitz. Schoeller photographed these Holocaust survivors and created a short film documenting the process. The exhibition includes the entire body of work including the film, bios, and quotes from the sitters. Schoeller is one of the world’s most prominent contemporary portrait photographers.

MARC FORGIONE HAS OPENED ONE FIFTH
Marc Forgione has taken over the iconic restaurant One Fifth (where Anthony Bourdain, Keith McNally, Lynn Wagenknecht, Alfred Portale, Kerry Heffernan and others have left impressions), reimagining it with executive chef Robert Zwirz. The restaurant will reflect his Italian heritage and its New York surroundings, with a focus on local ingredients from the Union Square Greenmarket as well as Roman-style pinsa, and a robust Italian-inspired cocktail menu and wine list.

9/11 EXHIBIT AT NYC FIRE MUSEUM
The New York City Fire Museum, on Spring Street, will mark the 21st Anniversary of 9/11 with “One Day in September,” a new exhibit featuring portraits of family members of first responders taken by photographer Richard Wiesel. The show opens August 24 and runs through Oct. 2. This is Wiesel’s first solo exhibition in New York, and it includes seven photographs featuring personal artifacts provided by first-responders’ family members, paired with short interviews.
