The Staple Street skybridge has sold

The Post reports that the condo on either side of the Staple Street skybridge — the entire building at 9 Jay and a floor at 67 Hudson — has sold for $24 million. City records have not yet been updated — according to the Sotheby’s agent’s website it closed on August 25 — and it was last last listed for $26 million.

This seemed like a good time to rerun the pics I took when I was in there in January 2019.

It’s been on the market since 2015, going from $50 million to $35 to now $25. It was sold by Zoran Ladicorbic, the American fashion designer from the ‘90s known by his first name only, who bought 9 Jay and the bridge in 1985 for $499,000. (The New York Times in a 1999 review called him the “master of deluxe minimalism,” or the Gap for the very rich.)

The 1907 townhouse on the west side of the bridge – 9 Jay – was originally the carriage house for the building on the east side of it – 67 Hudson – which, when it was built in 1900, was New York Hospital. Ambulances pulled into the Jay Street building (it has two curb cuts – one on Staple and one on Jay) and patients were taken upstairs and across the bridge to the hospital.

Zoran was the one who bought 3A and 3B at 67 Hudson for $300,000, combining the two apartments and completing the connection across Staple Street. He said at the time that he beat out Andy Warhol in a bidding war for the townhouse. He then put more than $600,000 into the two apartments in the ‘90s, but left the ground floor and the basement much as it was with the original subway tiles.

  1. That is incredibly interesting history re hospital.

  2. It is very good to hear of Zoran’s success in this transaction coming to fruition. Although I am sure that he may miss this home and many of the associated memories, there is a positive side of a new beginning. Further, I would opine that the purchaser shall be very content with this unique property that is truly one of a kind both for the neighborhood and Manhattan as a whole.

Wishing Zoran the very best in all of his future endeavors.

  3. Great story and great item!
