Seen & Heard: Honoring immigrants who serve Downtown

HONORING IMMIGRANTS AND THEIR WORK DOWNTOWN
The Lower Manhattan Historical Association will host its annual Alexander Hamilton Immigrant Achievement Award, going to immigrants who have made outstanding contributions to Lower Manhattan, on Monday, Oct. 10, 4p, at Trinity Church. The event is open to the public but RSVP is required to abby@historiclowermanhattan.org by today, Oct. 7. The awards this year will go to Commissioner Manuel Castro, Mayor’s Office of Immigrant Affairs; Wellington Z. Chen, executive director, Chinatown BID/Partnership; and architect Michael Arad. The event will also include a walk by Alexander Hamilton’s gravesite and Trinity Commons Parish Hall. (The video above is about Hamilton’s connection to the church.)

OVERSTORY MAKES WORLD’S BEST BAR LIST
The World’s 50 Best Bars put Overstory, the bar from the Crown Shy folks on the top of 70 Pine in Fidi, at number 34. There’s also a list for 51-100 and the Dead Rabbit made number 96.

BATTERY GARDENERS LUNCHEON AT 20
The annual Battery Gardeners Luncheon will celebrate 20 years of horticulture and the new gardens of Battery Playscape, showcasing plants and play, on Monday, Oct. 24. In 2002 The Battery Conservancy commissioned a horticultural master plan for the park’s 25 acres. Today it hosts over 240,000sf of perennial gardens. Get tickets here.


“IN BETWEEN” AT CHRISTINA GRAJALES GALLERY
Christina Grajales Gallery, which recently moved to Greenwich and Vestry, has a group show up now that includes South Korean furniture designer Sang Hoon Kim, glass and steel from Christophe Côme, chandeliers from Paula Hayes, among others.
