Seen & Heard: A new home goods store for Church

NEW HOME GOODS STORE ON LEONARD
J. sent this picture of a new home goods store at the corner of Church and Leonard. I must have walked right by it on my shopping guide tour yesterday. Will catch up to it soon….

THE FORGIONE PORCH IS NO MORE
Marc Forgione took down its curbside seating on Reade Street — no doubt getting ready to move across the street to Hudson and Duane. More soon when I can catch up to them on those plans. (Photo from N. below.)

…AND ALSO AT L’ANGOLO
L’Angolo also decided to remove its shed, now that the weather has turned and since the city is brewing up the new regulations. They figured they will just rebuild in the spring. Plus they do have their excellent loading docks. And while I thought L’Angolo had one of the prettier sheds around, it’s kind of a relief to see the open curb. And even better without a car alongside it!

PACE UNVEILS ESPORTS ARENA
Pace University has created an esports arena at 33 Beekman as a home for its varsity gamer athletes and as a future site to combine competition and academics. And because I have a kid who is actually a varsity esports athlete, I am adding this detail: Pace Esports’ Smash Gold 2 team won the ECAC Open Division Grand Finals earlier this year, with just one match loss while finishing in first place out of 76 teams in their division. Sweet.

  1. I noticed the shop on Church & Leonard on Tuesday evening and then by Wednesday it was gone and a moving truck was outside. Must have been a pop-up of some sort.

  2. The fact is all the restaurants, which are many in Tribeca that openly occupy the streets/sidewalk with their egregious sheds ( not open air at all) and tables should be put on notice with a deadline to clear out or fined. This glaring fallacy, is it democracy or just lawlessness?
