French retailer coming to One Wall Street

Somehow I missed this announcement last fall, but the French retailer Printemps has taken 54,000 square feet on two floors at One Wall, where Whole Foods just opened. (Thanks for the heads up from Hamptons real estate agent Holly Hodder, who tracks this stuff for sport and shares the good news about Downtown with me when she sees it — see more on the top two other lease deals below here and here.)

The opening is not till spring 2024, so more TK when I get a tour.

This will be the 150-year-old brand’s first US store, and all the fashion-types are very excited about it. “We plan to pioneer a new format of experiential retail in this fast changing and demanding market,” said Printemps CEO Jean-Marc Bellaiche in a press release last September. Not sure exactly what that means? But for sure the shopping experience will include the famous Red Room, which the developer has restored and reopened.

The company’s COO, Olivier Schaeffer, added this about Fidi: “Like it did in Paris over 150 years ago by opening in Boulevard Haussmann, a neighborhood then in transformation, Printemps has chosen the iconic One Wall Street address in the Financial District. The already dynamic area has become more residential, experienced an increase in diverse businesses moving to the neighborhood and is one of the most important tourist destinations in the city, welcoming local and international tourists alike.”

  1. Though far afield from Tribeca, there’s another interesting tidbit (at least to me) in the list of retail leases. It says Michaels is taking 32K sq ft at 675 6th Ave, which is where they already are, but in the basement. The Harmon (BBB’s health and beauty sister co) on street level of that building is closing. I wonder if Michaels will be moving upstairs completely (though to my eye it seems like a smaller space) or expanding significantly. I only go into Michaels occasionally, but there’s always a line to check out and lots of people in the store.

  2. I reported about this in 2021 though I did not disclose the store name until they made it official last September The famed Red Room will be a boutique of Printemps, which will mean that this amazing interior will finally be open to the public. The plan between now and the Grand Opening in 2024 is for them to have periodic pop-ups throughout FiDi. And don’t forget that Century 21 will also REopen later this Spring. The “now hiring” signs are up!

  3. Hi, Any news on this? Thank you
