Seen & Heard: More smoke shops

MORE SMOKE SHOPS
Not that this is all that interesting, but recording it here so we have a record when it is time to take count. This one is on Broadway between Franklin and Leonard. And I would guess the count is around 10? Thanks to P. for the eyeball and snap.

DAMP FEBRUARY ANYONE?
Is the Hideaway picking up the mantle now that the Patriot has closed? Not as sassy for sure — it is Duane Street after all — but still makes you smile.

A REFLECTION ON THE BEAN
ARTnews skewered the Bean, calling it “an eyesore that no one asked for” — though I am not sure what they are so miffed about; from my perspective it is public art, totally free for us, from a noted and celebrated sculptor, and clearly folks love it. But the best part is if you look closely, a longtime Tribecan (in fact, raised here) makes the lead photo. Also, J. sent this great shot from above of the crowds.

  1. It’s very common for these businesses to be a place for cartel and other underground money laundering operations.
You will notice no one is ever in these shops yet they are popping up everywhere and stay open without a lot of business.
Any activity they do have is just enabling the money laundering activities to commence all right in front of the government and FBI offices which is the joke of it all. If weed is legalized, then the money flow and opportunity to launder significant amounts of cash becomes large.
Landlords lose(as they tend to stop paying rent), neighborhoods lose, cartels and other drug backed organizations win.
