Seen & Heard: It’s My Park Day at WMP

PLANTING DAY AT WASHINGTON MARKET PARK
Friends of Washington Market Park will host its bi-annual It’s My Park Day planting event for kids on Saturday, April 29, from 11a to noon. Park Gardener Richie will instruct children and adults on planting butterfly-friendly varieties and beautifying the park.

LIGHT SHOW AT BELVEDERE PLAZA
Battery Park City will host a light installation at Belvedere Plaza created by seven artists with live performances and music each night. The show, called Illumination NYC and run by a non-profit, was held last year in Brooklyn and will run here from May 2 to 6. The event is free but you need reservations. The group bills it as “Coachella met Burning Man and had a family friendly offspring” and festival goers are encouraged to wear glow-in-the-dark attire.

HUDSON EATS PIANO BAR
Hudson Eats , the food court at the Brookfield mall, will host a piano bar every Thursday starting April 27 through May 25, from 5 to 8p, with a different pianist each night. This event is free and is located between Black Seed Bagels and Blue Ribbon Sushi Bar. Artists are Elijah Caldwell, Franca Vercelloni, Nina Zeitlin, Drew Wutke and Kenney Green.

JOE RAY AT BORTOLAMI
Bortolami gallery will host the California artist Joe Ray from May 12 to June 17 with an opening on May 12 from 6 to 8. The show it titled Inside Out. “Ray, like many artists in Southern California, began producing cast resin sculptures in the 1960s. Simultaneously, he embarked on his series of signature, luminously atmospheric Nebula paintings in the 1970s…Inside Out will be Ray’s first solo exhibition in New York and will feature paintings, sculpture and photographs.”
