In the News: Leaning tower of Fidi is also fire hazard

MORE TROUBLE FOR 161 MAIDEN LANE
The City reports that 161 Maiden Lane, which was shut down by its owner halfway through construction once engineers realized it was leaning, has another issue. Fire inspectors recently discovered that the standpipe that provides firefighters with access to water was not functioning.

LITTLE SYRIA INSTALLATION FOR FIDI
The Tribeca Trib covered the presentation at CB1 for a tribute to the (now gone) Little Syria in Fidi planned for the new Elizabeth Berger Plaza at Trinity and Edgar. It includes 7-foot tall sculptural abstract letters, four 11-foot-long mosaic panels, a 40-foot-long mosaic seating-wall back.

MID CENTURY AT 70 VESTRY
Architectural Digest has a feature on a three-bedroom in what I am pretty sure is 70 Vestry though the trees in the windows are throwing me off (maybe they are photoshopped in?). Interior designer Sandra Weingort did the project.

SUPER TALL IS SCALED DOWN
Yimby has renderings for 45 Broad between Beaver and Exchange Place, a stalled residential tower that is scheduled to be a real sliver: 52 stories — though the original proposal was supposed to be 1115 feet tall! (That’s the old rendering, above.) The new design is from Handel Architects and will yield 302 units spread across 221,000 square feet.

  1. That looks like 70 Vestry. It’s just on a lower floor
