Seen & Heard: Midsummer is upon us

SWEDISH MIDSUMMER IS THIS FRIDAY
The Swedish celebration of the summer solstice, which has taken place at Wagner Park for two decades, will be held in Rockefeller Park this Friday, June 23, from 5 to 8p, at Chambers and River Terrace. Join in a dance around the Midsummer pole. Make wreaths from beautiful flowers representing those in bloom on the solstice in Sweden. Enjoy a parade, children’s games, Swedish delicacies and a few new surprises. Traditional music by Paul Dahlin and fiddlers from the American Swedish Institute in Minneapolis. Dances led by Ross Sutter, a Scandinavian folklorist.

A MONTH OF PLAYS AT FEDERAL HALL
R. was good to send this: sounds like something you can torture the kids with this summer (but cool if you are an adult): Federal Hall at 15 Pine will host a series of free one-hour plays from June 22 to July 22 created by The Democracy Project, a journey through the first of the 527 momentous days when New York City was the first capital of the revolutionary United States government. The plays are written by WGA Award winner Tanya Barfield (Hulu’s “Mrs. America”); Pulitzer Prize finalist Lisa D’Amour (Detroit); MacArthur Genius Grant recipient Larissa FastHorse (The Thanksgiving Play); Obie Award winner Melissa James Gibson (“House of Cards”); Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize winner Michael R. Jackson (A Strange Loop); and Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize winner Bruce Norris (Clybourne Park). Read more and reserve tickets in advance here.

PRIDE AT THE SEAPORT
The plaza at Pier 17 will host a pride dance party on June 22, with prizes for the best dressed in bold, bright pride colors and a live DJ from 6 to 9p. More info here.

MORE RESILIENCY MEETINGS FOR ROCKEFELLER
The North/West Battery Park City Resiliency Project team has considered feedback from previous engagement meetings (most recently the popular “reach-specific” workshops this past winter) and will be providing an update on the project’s 30% Design milestone on Monday, June 26, at Stuy. Identical presentations have been scheduled at two different times at 4:30p, and one at 6:30PM, each with a discussion to follow. Register here.
