Seen & Heard: 14 White making progress?

14 WHITE DIGGING GOING ON
It looks like things are moving at the site of the residential triangle building at 14 White and Sixth Avenue. This will be exciting to see come together.

GOOD THINGS TO COME?
I hope this is being tilled for a new street tree. Not sure what happened to the last one… This is one of those rare spots on Tribeca sidewalks that do not have vaults underneath.

ONE UPSIDE OF CURBSIDE SHEDS…
…street flowers! This from the dining shed at Petrarca at Church and White.

AN IRISH EXIT FOR PENN STATION
The owner of The Dead Rabbit, Jack McGarry — the pair that started it parted ways a year ago — is opening a pub at Moynihan Train Hall called The Irish Exit, which, of course, is genius. I’m not even Irish and I wish I had thought of it. (If the boys at the Grand Banks are reading, my fave bar name idea for a waterfront joint is “The Dry Dock.”) “The Irish Exit is our travel-focused concept, which will be strategically located in airports, train stations, and service areas, offering quick-service experience. Our goal is to provide our customers with an excellent and playful exit to Ireland, inspiring the name, while they are on the go.”

  1. An Irish exit is when one leaves a gathering, without saying goodbye, or letting anyone know they have gone. I have family members that were experts at that. Ha.

  2. “Irish exit” is an ethnic slur similar to the expressions “Indian giver” and “Welshing on a bet”. All are offensive and anybody who cares about reducing bigotry would not use them.
