Seen & Heard: World Cup soccer on Oculus Plaza

WORLD CUP ON THE BIG SCREEN
I happened to see this as I walked though the Oculus the other day — sorry I missed the first broadcast. USA vs Netherlands on July 26 at 9p; Round of 16 on August 6 at 10p; semis on August 10 at 10p, with the details there TBD.

VISITING HOURS ON COAST GUARD CUTTER
The 1936 Coast Guard cutter Eagle will be docked on the north side of Pier 17 and taking visitors July 29 – 31. Hours are Saturday, July 29: 3pm–7pm; Sunday, July 30: 11am–7pm; Monday, July 31: 12pm–7pm. Built at the Blohm+Voss Shipyard in Hamburg in 1936, Eagle was one of three sail-training ships operated by the pre-World War II German navy. At the close of the war, the ship was taken as a war reparation by the U.S., re-commissioned as a U.S. Coast Guard Cutter.

PROGRESS AT FRIEDMAN’S
This has been stalled for a while so it was exciting to see some work going on at the coming soon site of Friedman’s in the Goldman breezeway — the former Beans & Greens.

LIGHT OVER 56 LEONARD
Jill Kaminsky sent this cool Tribeca view taken in April from her apartment window in Battery Park City, looking east.
