Wei West and Friedman’s will collaborate

J. figured this out back in May: Wei West and Friedman’s are combining forces to create one (bigger) restaurant in the Goldman breezeway, calling it a collaboration on an all-day cafe. (Thanks to A. for keeping an eye on it.)

They now share the same signage, and a note suggests they were aiming for a mid September opening, though clearly that’s gone by.

In August 2022, Friedman’s said the goal was to open in the former Beans & Greens space in spring 2023. The local chain started in the Chelsea Market in 2009 with “a menu that inspires today’s tastes with an emphasis on gluten free dining. Service that’s cordial, but not overpowering in a comfortable environment,” a rep from the company said. They are open for breakfast, lunch and dinner and said their menu is consistent across their restaurants (BLTs, omelets, soups, salads, sandwiches).

Wei West applied for a new liquor license at the CB1 June Licensing Committee to relocate the bar/sushi counter and dining room to the back of the restaurant. That’s the layout they shared with the committee below; at the time they did not mention the combination restaurant.

More soon when they open up.

  1. What an odd combo? Bacon Egg n Cheese by day, Lo Mein by night? Love em both but don’t see how it fits together…

    • I agree with Carolina. Maybe they are trying to cross-sell customer bases or save money on rent? Whatever it is, please keep my sushi and bagels separate!
