Eataly coming soon to Soho

L. caught the signs in the window: Eataly looks like it is poised to open a new branch in Soho at 200 Lafayette. “Oh my goodness goodness!! We have a real food market coming nearby!!!!” the White Street resident wrote.

The specialty food market, which of course has a location at 4 World Trade Center that opened in 2016, took 18,000 square feet on the ground floor and lower levels of the space at the northeast corner of Broome last October. Eataly opened it’s original location at Fifth and 23rd in 2010.

There are global expansions afoot: “The plan is to grow Eataly in North America, Europe, the Middle East and Asia, where the group is present with 16 franchised locations, the company said,” according to Restaurant Business Online in fall 2022. There are eight stores in the US — Soho would make nine — and another 11 around the world run by Eataly, though it seems like there are a few dozen other franchises.

The chain was acquired by U.K.-based investment firm Investindustrial VII LP in 2022 for about $198 million for a 52 percent stake.

  1. Great news, and lovely space for an Eately!

Fingers crossed that a similar small-format market will open in the new Park Row retail suite east of City Hall Park, which would be a win for both local residents and workers :).

  2. Excellent news! Any idea on opening date?

  3. Does anyone have any idea what is happening with the old Modell space at Broadway & Chambers?

It too would make for a great food market!

  4. Any new news on the H-mart? THanks!

  5. There are 11 jobs open for Eataly soho, they had an open interview day at Flatiron for Soho leadership jobs on 9/13, so my guess opening in late Oct/Nov time frame. The jobs include cooks, so there is at least 1 restaurant in there.
